Squirrel, Bacon, and Sweet Potato Soup

I had a lot of football watching (and crying, :( Go Bucks!) and packing to do today, as my winter break came to a close. So I decided to put my the left over squirrel bones, which still had a bit of meat on them, to good use. In a small pot, I boiled all the little bony parts with half of an onion, thyme, and garlic. I strained the light broth, added more onion, two slices of bacon, and a (microwave softened) sweet potato, with just a little splash of milk. The squirrel broth didn't have a particularly powerful taste, but I could definitely pick up on the origin. It all went together to make a pleasant, light lunch.

No thought piece today, but I want to share this video. Dr. Terry Wahls designed a diet that helped her overcome multiple sclerosis. It calls for massive amounts of fresh, organic vegetables, healthy fats, and healthy protein. She drew inspiration from hunter-gatherer diets, and her presentations place a larger emphasis on organic, locavore ideals. Basically, her choice of foods utilizes nutrients to rebuild myelin and support the body's mitochondria. I'm going to do a bit more reading and post here later in the week.

Also coming down the pipeline: herbalism, exercise, my current health predicament, and the role of alcohol in a healthy lifestyle.
